Sri Kadiri Legend Coin

Kadiri is a town in the Anantapur district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
Kadiri is famous primarily for its association with Lord Sri Narasimha Swamy, the fourth Avataram of Lord Sri Vishnu. The town is a place of Hindu pilgrimage.

The name Kadiri is an alternative name for the Sanskrit word, Khadri, meaning canary wood or Indian mulberry

This coin could be a feudatory issue of the Vijayanagara period.

Kadiri Narasimha swamy Temple
Several pilgrims visit this place all around the year. The legend attached to this temple is that Lord Narasimha swamy emerged from the roots of a khadri tree. The Chalukya and Vijayanagara rulers were believed to be the builders of this temple. Sri Mahalakshmi, the Lords consort is understood here by the name of Sri Amruthavalli Ammavaru.

Lord lakshmi Narasimha swamy in Kadiri temple is swayambhu rising from the roots of Khadri tree. He seems here as Ashta Bahu Narasimha (having eight hands) tearing Hiranyakasipu. We are able to see Prahlada standing beside him with bifold hands.

Astonishingly, once the daily abhishekham is performed, the Murthy of the Lord lakshmi narasimha swamy sweats even once being repeatedly wiped off by the Archakas in kadiri temple
